Don’t Quench the Spirit

August 13th, 2008 by Chanda

Have you ever tried to explain this concept to your children?

We have a little devotion book that we started and the lesson for today was from 1 Thess. 5:19 “Do not quench the Holy Spirt of God.”

What was helpful was the boys were told to get dressed for the day and they were disobedient and didn’t follow directions.

After they got dressed, we did our devotion on Quenching the Spirit. I asked them if they ever start to do something and then hear a still small voice telling them to STOP? They all said yes. I told them that’s God’s way of directing them to do what is right.

I told them that quenching the Holy Spirit would be disobeying that still small voice of God and ultimately making God sad. This was the best application of this verse that I could think of - can you think of anything else?

I then asked them why we want to make sure we don’t make God sad. And Brandon, my 6 year old said “Because he made all the clothes even before we were born or any of the people were born - he made all the clothes in the world.”

Huh?

Oh well, at least he got the first part.

We ended with Bralon praying that we listen to the voice of God when he gives us directions.

November 21st, 2007 by Chanda

Today, I am thankful for my ministry.

Being able to share my life and ideas with you has been a great inspiration over the last year. I’m always thinking of new ways to share Christ with the children - not only for their benefit, but so that I can share with you as well.

Thank you God for the creative juices you have flowing through my vains. Thank you for sending new visitors to this website in pursuit of ways to share Christ with their children. Lord, help their needs to be met and that your children will be blessed!

Thank you for reading along these past seven days.

Everyday is a Day of Thanksgiving: Day 6

November 21st, 2007 by Chanda

Today I am thankful for the opportunity to serve God in ministry.

I love working in the ministry at my church. Greeting people with a smile when they enter the church as a member of our Hospitality committee. I also love working with the Women’s Ministry and organizing fellowship opportunities for the women of our church.

It’s a pleasure to be able to touch people’s lives with the love of Christ.

Thank you Lord for the opportunity to serve in your earthly ministry!

Daily Reading Challenge: Day 1

August 1st, 2007 by Chanda

Yesterday, I sent an email to my mailing list asking if the readers would join my kids and I in a 31 Day Challenge to read the Bible together every day for 31 days.

And the response has been awesome. Thank you to everyone who emailed me and said their family will join the challenge. Patricia, Alisha, Monica & Brandi - I’m so glad to have you on board!! Please let me know how you are progressing in the coming weeks.

So today is Day 1 of the challenge.

My boys are really excited - they are competitive and they LOVE a challenge.

Like I said before, we are starting with Genesis in our Children’s Bible and reading 10-15 minutes every night. The goal is to keep it simple and strive for consistency. Once we have a great foundation, we’ll keep building and building.

Today’s Reading Plan:
-The Beginning
-Adam & Eve
-The Sneaky Snake

Are you and your children interested in joining this challenge? Hit the “Comments” button below and let me know you’re in.

See you tomorrow!

Recommended: Good Children’s Bible

April 17th, 2007 by Chanda

A few weeks ago, I offered a “Good Children’s Bible” to my newsletter subscribers as a prize.

As it turns out, many parents are looking for a good Children’s Bible so I thought I’d share my recommendation.

I really love the Bible produced by ZonderKidz. My 6-year-old can read it for himself and my 4-year-old can also understand the language. Both of which are very important to me.

I’ve posted a link to it in the new TKTB Amazon Store that I’m filling with all the great Children’s Bible Resources that I recommend.

This Bible has a 5 star rating on Amazon with 48 positive reviews. Check it out here.

Get on Board, Little Children

January 25th, 2007 by Chanda

Cedarmont Kids Gospel Bible SongsMy husband bought this cd nearly six years ago when our oldest son was about to celebrate his first Christmas. We LOVED this cd. We would play it all the time.

Then one day it was distroyed - I can’t remember exactly how it happened, but I think it was stepped on and cracked in half.

My husband could not remember where he bought the cd. We couldn’t find it anywhere. But thanks to the magic of Itunes - we now have our cd again!!

We particularly love this cd because it has all the traditional children’s Bible songs, but they aren’t all sung in a high soprano voice!

These songs are full of rythum and spirit. These songs are so fun to sing along to - I think I sing louder than the kids!

We highly recommend this cd - check it out in Itunes.

Cedarmont Kids Gospel Praise SongsI’m downloading the Cedarmont Kids Gospel Praise Songs too! My youngest son’s favorite song right now is “What a Mighty God We Serve.”

This cd also has great songs like “Down In My Heart”, “Peace Like A River”, “Come to Jesus”, and “Every Time I Feel the Spirit”.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we do.

Be Blessed!
-Chanda
